Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Renovating a Pond or Lake? Spillway repair.....again!

Well, hopefully the 3rd time is a charm. Last year I went from stone to a cement spillway, and apparently the frost heaved one side up enough to allow water to work underneath it. We ended up cutting a 2' wide section across the 20' wide spillway. We then dug a trench and poured a 4' wall, which is below the frost line. We then pumped concrete under the washed out part underneath. After that, we packed clay a foot up the new wall, then poured both sides of that. My contractor, Bill May from Atlanta, came back and made things right. It's nice in this day and age to come across someone as honest as him!
Also, Fish & Wildlife provided a water control structure for the inlet side. I've got a 22 acre field upstream of the pond enrolled in the Parners For Fish and Wildlife Program.

Have you stocked anything into the pond?

Thanks for the response! I usre hope this is the end of the problems. We've had plenty of rain this year, that is until the repairs were completed, no rain since. 40% chance of thunderstorms for the next few days...I've got my fingers crossed,
Well, I stocked fatheads in there 3 years ago, then largemouth the following year. I believe they are all gone (the largemouth) because I never see any sign of them. I'm not even sure this pond is a good candidate for fish due to the high turnover rate of the water.

Yeah Tom sometimes it can be frustrating trying to get a pond to support a good fishery, but you have plenty of the main ingredient water, many pond owners loose every thing cause they don't have enough water.
I'm still working on the problem of winterkill, mainly cause my pond depth is only 8 ft., but the challenge of trying to solve it keeps me out of trouble.
