Anybody got 'em?
I am thinking about using one to cover an island counter cabinet that contains a cooktop. I know that they can/will scorch from very hot pans and will scratch with a knife, but so will formica and some others.
I like the bamboo only because it is closer to a wood finish and the option to buy a slab at $10 per square foot is very attractive. Also, I should be able to cut the slot into the edge to house the down-draft fan unit I want to use.

Well sort of, we have solid bamboo flooring in our vacation rental. Great stuff. It is very tough in it's non-caramelized form (the caramelizing process supposedly reduces it's strength). The flooring is very tough, for counters you already pointed out the concerns (burning and scratching) but I think with some care you would have a great counter top.
Sometimes I eat off the floor, so it it like a counter top.

...you already pointed out the concerns (burning and scratching) Sounds like I'm talking about Bruce's rash here don't it?

I saw some bamboo countertops on an HGTV show, don't remember which, that looked really nice and were made from 2 sheet of 3/4" plyboo glued together. Looked something like this bamboo countertop:  I like how the edge can be used as an accent instead of needing to hide it.

Man bamboo is such a great and beautiful material! I bought my set last year and it's still perfect   Took a bit to install and the cleaning is fairly easy, Definitely an investment. Is it weird that I also bought bamboo sheets? 
A professional is always a better bet for getting rid of pests, unless you like to have fun!
