Trespassing Problem Solved.
My new fence, along with some very large "no trespassing-we prosecute" signs and a word of advice from the sheriff to my neighbor did the trick…. for now anyway.
_________________________________________________________

But, at sunrise this morning I discovered all of my no trespassing signs are gone, the wire that held them onto my fence had been cut. As we all know, without "no trespassing" signs posted every X number of feet it makes it more difficult to prosecute. Any one have some ideas for theft proof signs?

Call the Law and report a theft.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Wow Jim, sorry to hear about this. Trouble with neighbors can be highly aggravating. You could purchase theft-proof nuts and bolts (if you search on theft proof or tamper proof fasteners you'll get a bunch of links) and attach the signs using those but the special fasteners aren't cheap.

I had the same problem of my signs being torn down.

So I put up the new signs, and another sign that said something to the effect of "Smile, you've just had your picture taken. Now it doesn't matter if you take down the signs. If you come back again, I'll have your picture again, and you will be having a meeting with the State Police and the State Fish & Game Commission. I will prosecute you to the full extent of the law. Don't ever come back."

Believe it or not, those signs didn't get torn down.

It's an ongoing process though.

Good luck.

On a side note, Jim's place, I thought you lived at your pond.

Jim, just a thought, but could you put some on a pole out in the water
where it would be unlikely for someone to swim to?

Can't speak for Jim but if his property is like mine the pond might be inside the property quite a distance (at least from 3 of the fence lines), he probably wants to stop the trespassers at the property line.

Right, but rmedgar is talking about putting "some" signs in the water. Kind of like a fall back position.

Like Sunil said, if they get that far they will not be able to deny that they saw the signs in the water.

Jim, IIRC, Purple paint holds the same force of notice as a sign....intended for the illiterate and arrogant neighbors.

As this varies from state-to-state, people should check local laws before painting trees. We have one side of our property marked with paint as it is adjacent to a state forest. There are actually some more permanent paints you can apply, but usually a surveyor is the only one authorized to do it.

Is there a state, even California, that regulates a person painting trees on their own property?....Wal-Mart and most hardware stores sell the "certified" purple "posting" paint in spray cams...Check whith your local constabulary for the specifics on how hight and what size and spacing the paint marks must be to be considered legal posting.

Here is Missouri's regulation on paint requirements.....

The statutory requirements for purple paint markings are as follows:

On either trees or posts

Paint marks must be readily visible to any person approaching the property

Paint marks must be no more than 100 feet apart

Each mark must be a vertical line at least eight inches in length

The bottom of each paint mark must be at least three feet and no higher than five feet from the ground

To read the actual purple-paint criminal trespass statute, click on this link: Missouri Statutes, Chapter 569.145

Jim, I think I would post signs, use purple paint, and get a man eating dog.

And maybe put up some "Rattlesnake Farm" signs, too. That would keep me away! laugh

My neighbor has been nice and keeps his man eating dogs penned up since I put the rifle range along the property line. My Bushmaster talks a convincing talk, and he speaks frequently.

My neighbor on my north side just recently nailed or screwed blocks of wood that was painted purple to fence post around his propety, plus he put signs. Looks like most of the signs are gone but those purple blocks are still there.

The purple blocks are probably still there because the perps are too stupid to know what they mean!

Thank you for all the great ideas. While walking around my pond yesterday and looking for trash that my neighbor throws into my pond, I decided to take a different approach with this jerk.
I cashed in a favor and called Mr. Bob .
After explaining my problem to Bob, he simply said….let's see how the little jerk likes this -see pic below.

As of yesterday the Jerk was advised that his accesses to the Arkansas River, hunting, fishing, shooting and running his dogs on Mr. Bob's property has come to an end…No Trespassing on any of my properties !!!
Yellow lines = my property
Black X = Bobs Property
Red Lines = the jerks property

It may not stop the trash dumping, but at least you get some payback.

Now I see how some Hedge(from the fence thread) would not work. Hope you get it resolved. At least you know who it is, I have not caught my trespassers yet.
