No one in Arkansas raises them. Greg was gracious enough to look into this for me and didn't find anyone. He could deliver them to me but would be coming from Alabama so I'm sure the shipping costs are understandably high. My question is can you get them from local sources to stock? The Arkansas river is full of them and is 3 miles away. I've netted them before and designed a round tank to keep them and they stayed alive for a day of fishing in late April. Could a person catch their own and stock or is this wishful thinking?

Chad fyi. We got em going to MS so I got your price down to $1500 delivered for a load of 4500 mature shad. You may find this cheaper than most companies anyways.

To answer your questions we used to get them from local reservoir, you have to be good at id you don't want to get a gizzard inthe mix. Next you need high numbers at one time. This is to have some survivie the bass frenzy a few hundred at a time is bass snacks not establishment.

Also you need to time it, this was the toughest part, so that they are ready to spawn. When farm rasied it is obvious they come up to spawn and that is when you get them little tougher in the wild.

I say if good at id go for it but be aware of my concerns if establishment is goal. Good luck. see thread about shocking if interested.

Better to get before than after that is for sure but they gotta survive the bass predation until they spawn. When we bring them you can push on themn and get eegs and sperm coming out with ease. Sometimes floating in the hauling tank.
