Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Types of fish to choose Second year stocking

I stocked a redug-out 1.5 ac pond, that was 2/3 full, last spring with 4000 fat head minnows, 70 perch, 50 LMB and put 500 crayfish in it in the fall. Now that it is full, my thoughts are to add some golden shiners, a few more LMB and perch, and some CC. I thought I would also set up a feeder, more so for the cats. I was going to stay away from bluegill because the pond will have a light fishing pressure. What sizes and how many would be good additions to my new toy. I like the idea of screening the fish in that I�ve read in PB, I�m afraid the bass will eat everything, but the only area I might be able to do that with is a flooded spot that is 6-12� deep by 10� wide. The bass did well last year but I didn�t see many or caught any perch last year and have not seen any egg packets for them yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

wont the bass eat all the FHM and YP. If the YP are small enough but if not you have 2 predators and no forage except for the minimal FHM which will be abliterated by the LMB and YP. I think it is an almost must to have some diffrent forage BG would be the best but im sure there are others that may work

I doubt GSH would hold up forever under the pressure of 2 (or 3, counting CC) predators. Expect a VERY large GSH population to last on the order of 5-10 years, at most.

IF you run bass-heavy, BG population will not be a problem, and IMHO hundreds of LMB are easier to reduce in number than thousands of BG. YP will likely be out-competed by the LMB over the long haul, and may require periodic restocking if you want to maintain a long-term YP presence.
