The topo looks very promising. Are there other ponds in the area to show that the soils will probably be adequate for a pond?

Yes, there are numerous ponds with in a 5 mile area. I am glad I stumbled on this site you have some great ideas on structures and such.

Wow, that's one helluva draw. I agree with RT; promising. You may very well find that the best pondsite is actually within the 2 smaller draws at the higher elevation. It might be difficult (?) to put the dam at the eastern edge down below (to capture both upper draws as part of the pond) without encroaching onto your neighbor's property. If your NRCS office is cooperative, they may be able to review the plan with their computers and maps and offer advice. If this IS available, jump on it.

(edit; it's been almost 5 years since we were dissecting topo maps, but I still get the chill. Your's prompted a shiver)

Yea that was what I was thinking too, the short draw would make for a easier pond plus give me some buffer room from the other peoples land. Yea it is about 50 foot drop from the hill to the creek location.. Only thing worries me about that drop is the ground run off in heavy rains may cause some big problems. Hopefully after clearing out I will be able to see the pond from the back porch of the house.
