Pond Boss Suscriber
I have selected a site and a contractor and we did 10 test holes all look good with clay present in all the holes *yea* I have a few general question if yall wouldnt mind helping a guy out? The pond will be aprox 2 to 3 acres and 12 ft deep, I was wondering if 4 to 1 slops would be good for min vegitation also should I have shallower slopes for spawning areas? I am going to have pea gravel for spawning areas and I will put structure in areas about 6 to 8 feet deep but do I need points and humps and ditches in the pond? This pond will be for LGM bass. Any help would be thankful! I have read The Perfect Pond and Raising Trophy Bass?
P.S hope to have pictures

Thank You

Way to go!!!

4-1 is ok but it would not hurt a thing to be less than that.
The Pond Boss has always said creating spawning areas are a good idea but mother nature will take care that.

Put some ditches and humps in the lake and cover about 20% of the area.

Keep us posted and send some pictures.

When I built my pond, I made the shoreline as steep as I could. I don't know forsure what I ended up with, but the weeds just grow along the edge of the water, which actually looks really nice. I didn't put in any spawning beds and don't think I needed them. From what I've seen in the last couple of years that it's been full of water and stocked, the fish are doing good. A gravel spawing bed might have been a good addition to the pond, but I don't think I'm missing anything by not having it.

Take lots of pictures, it's amazing how quickly you forget what the bottom looks like and exactly where everything is.

It's not how many ideas you have, but how many you make happen.

3/4 and 4 acre ponds.
