Will fathead minnows eat the golden shiner fry from Anderson's? My fry will be going in this Friday and I want to get some fatheads in in time for spawn as well but am concerned that the fhm will eat the fry.

My guess is your FHM are focusing on other items in the watershed as forage and the GSH are far to quick and speedy for them, but I'll bet someone can chime in with practical experience on this one. Considering the qty of GSH fry you are stocking I should think you'll be fine IMO.

When I had lots of both FHM and GSH, the Shiners seemed to predominate.

GSH fry when you get them from Anderson's are not overly mobile... They are newly hatched. I would say the FHM may pick at them, causing some mortality, but they will not kill large numbers of them IMO.

I opted to put the GSH fry in 4 months ahead of the FHM just because hatchery owners selling the FHM said the fry would or could be eaten by adult FHM.
