I went fishing the other day at a friend of mine's farm pond. Every fish that I caught I notice a small dot that almost looked like a blister. One fish had spots on it in a circle the size of a silver dollar and I notices tiny worm like things on them, some were moving some were stationary.. The pond sits between a hay field and a cow pasture. the cows have access to it for about a 50 yard stretch to get water and wade around in it (don't know if this has anything to do with it or not). I haven't fished in this pond in about 3 years and have noticed this before. Does anyone have any suggestions what this may be or how to correct the problem. thanks any help will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Doc!

It sounds like there may have been more than one type of fish parasite involved. I'm sure not smart enough to diagnose most of these, especially from a description. Any chance of going back and getting soem pictures?

Are the fish spawning or just finished spawning by any chance? I see this kind of thing most often on spawning fish that are more suspectable when stressed by spawning. Later it clears up and no parasites either.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Photos would help, but it sounds like fish lice. Fish lice mimic fish scales and are a bit difficult to see, unless there are a lot of them. Most of the other fish parasites don't obviously move...at least to the point you can hold the fish and watch them move.

The blister like things sound like yellow grubs. The worm like things sound like parasitic nematodes... Do you usually find them attached to the fins?
