Hello,
My dad just bought a big 50 acre lake with alot of crappie, bass, and cats in it. He is going to be getting another tractor soon though to build about 1-5 acre pond in the back part of the property in some trees for duck hunting. I want to sotck it with some fish, just incase the big fish in the big lake arent biting go try this other pond. I definetly want to put minnows in it to use as bait for the bigger lake, I was just thining about putting like a minnow trap out there or a cast away net when ever I need minnonws just go get osme out of there. I want to put a type of fish that would be fun to catch and good eating. I dont want to put bass, crappie or cats in it though. I was thinking about putting some bluegill in it. What do you think? Will they survive with just minnows in there? I though I would add a few cedar trees in it too for some structure.
What do you think?

What part of the country are you in? I can't think of anything better than what you have except maybe some trout but they will have pretty strict requirements to survive.

An all BG/fathead pond can be a pretty neat deal for several years. However, sooner or later, without predation, they will overspawn. When, not if, that happens, I would add some predators to bring it into balance.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley Rancher and Farmer Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP Grandpa
