No but that was two or three big perch! I had ex strands that size when I had perch in the 13 to 15 inch class. (Yes I know they expand when they hit water).

Cecil, How can you tell how big they are with nothing in the picture for scale? Experience?

Bruce - Surface temps here in the shallows were in the 53s yesterday as well.

They are all over the place on the west bank of my pond.
Happily no males in the mix, still seems a shame all that those girls went thru for naught.

Cecil, How can you tell how big they are with nothing in the picture for scale? Experience? Small perch up to 11 inches or so only blow out short segments from my experience. The way those are winding around they seem to be fairly long. But you have a point. These may not be a large as they look due to nothing for reference in the picture.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Strands all over the place yesterday. Water temps were 53.5 F. How big are you perch now Bruce? You should get at least an inch a year in growth once they get to about 12 inches right? I've got 14+ inchers in the big pond, but not many of them. Its a lot of work to catch one.

Have you tried using fathead minnows below a slip bobber set about a foot off the bottom?

I finally saw some about four days ago here's in northeastern Indiana. When I feed I'm seeing perch that haven't dropped their eggs yet. However there are no males in the pond, so some of them may reabsorb their eggs.

Chuck Chuck, Other than vegetation I'm not sure what the variables are on what side of the pond they drop their eggs as I've seen them all over the pond in various years just like you.

Well my perch must like their privacy, after two days of rain I took a walk around the pond and founf nothing but FA, but then I noticed what appears to be "white stuff" all over a Christmas tree I put in this year. Unfortunately the tree is 20' offshore and I dont have a means to get closer to it to determine if its an egg strand or not, but I think it is because it is considerably brighter in color than the FA that is growing on all my structure.
There are no strands on the saplings I put in near my dock. I assumed the Christmas tree would not be "open" enough for eggs but I guess they use whatever they want?

Your saplings may not have been in the right place when they felt like they were having a cow and the vent opening was not big enough.  I've had them drop their egg strands on bottom vegetation in the deepest water.

Rex - In my limited experience with YP over the past couple years, I've observed the strands on my saplings and other grassy vegetation. I have a number of x-mas trees also so I wouln't be surprised if they use them too. Some strands fell off the saplings last year so I simply lifted them back onto the saplings.
They are definitely a brighter white and easy to pick out.
