Well, ladies and gents, it looks like I'm a no-show for the conference this year.

I finally start my career on Monday, September 14. I think asking for the 17th and 18th off would be unwise, but that's just a hunch.

Before I found out my start date, ahvatsa and I were going to make the conference a family event and bring our wives. Ahvatsa's birthday and my wife's birthday are both September 17, so it would have been a fun trip for those reasons as well. I must say that I have a fantastic wife--before I had to cancel, she graciously agreed to spend her birthday shopping or hanging around a resort while I'm off learning about ponds.

I'll miss seeing all my new and old PB friends, but I want to see plenty of pictures and stories. Ahvatsa and my wonderful stepmother will be there. Without embarassing him too much, somebody make his birthday special for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two conferences and I'll be there for the fourth one!

I am still trying to get my friend to decide on a date for his wedding so I am a maybe for the conference. I am trying to influence his date selection but I'm pretty sure his fiance doesn't realy care when I think they should get married. For some reason all of my friends decided that September is a great month to get married in. I already have 2 weddings to go to that month.

sorry you can't make it. You and your family should still try to make it up to Big Cedar some time it's beautiful there.

Is there no chance to start your new job the week after?

I agree that one wouldn't want to rock to boat, but.....

I know...I've already thought about how I could make it work. Honestly, the only thing I could think of is working a half-day Friday. Even then, I wouldn't get to the conference until after supper Friday night. I don't know if I can stand the cost of the plane ticket and lodging just to be there for one day.

I'd love to start a week later, but the firm has welcoming events for all the newcomers that are planned well in advance. Plus, my job is to bill time. Not being there would be a bad way to start that job.

You came late this past year. Make avatsa pay for the flight (you know he was going to anyway!).

I got a text message from Howard. He's driving in, so we expect him to arrive sometime around early Monday morning (after the show is over!).

I just know he texted you while he was driving.

Thanks, Theo. And yes, I'm very thankful for the job in these tough times. As much as I'd love to go to the conference, I'll take the employment! It's nice to finally start a career. I've had many different "jobs" over the years, but nothing I'd want to do long-term.

As for #4...yes. It's kinda funny...when my sister graduated from high school and left for college, my mom got a lab. When I graduated and left, she got another one. I'm used to being replaced by dogs, so no biggie.

As I see it you have two courses of action here:

1.Give me your boss's home phone number and I will call him and set him straight.

2. Get your brother in law to go over to his house and "suggest" that you get the weekend off.



Ricki and I didn't get to spend near enough time with you and your dad last year, we'll really miss you this year if you don't take my advice.

Definitely a good thing to have a job lined up! I would try to get started much earlier than September 17th, maybe even on a volunteer basis ASAP. Basically I would do anything to separate yourself from anyone else, and then getting the time off for the conference wont be such a big deal.

davatsa is being very humble. I had the opportunity to spend some (limited) quality time with both him and Papa Ahvatsa. Without tipping his hand (a veritable straight flush of humility), davatsa has already exercised considerable due diligence and preparation necessary get him to this critical step in a very impressive career. Well done, sir.

I don't know why this struck me as funny (one can never tell when something strikes JHAP as being funny, why am I talking in third person, shut up I'm trying to get a point across here, who the heck are you to tell me to shut up... you shut up, no YOU shut up, DON'T tell ME what to do) anyhoo the above sentence posted by Brettski reminds me of the Talking Head lyrics.... You talk a lot, but you aren't saying anything.

Anyway, David I guess you have to be mature and do the right thing (I hate it when that happens) but we're really going to miss you.

I suspect you hate the being mature part more, JHAP, as you have certainly exhibited a tendency to do the right thing.

BIG TIME BUMMER , we won't be able to attend the conference this year, and I was really looking forward to meeting you all.
A family member is having financial trouble due to(SOB ex-son inlaw) and we are helping her.
I was tempted to use the 9MM solution, but then they wouldn't let me visit my pond from prison.
I'm sure you'll all have a great time at a great convention, hope to make it next year.

Adirondack: Now that is really bad news. I and many others were looking forward to meeting you. Weren't you also thinking about bringing another pondster with you?

Bing, just the wife and I were gonna drive out, and visit a couple of relatives on the way back.
Like I've always told my kids & grand kids till they were sick of hearing it, Life aint fair, but it's better than being dead.
