We were out fishing last night (late) and the catfish were very, very active. They were all over the pond surface skimming the surface in circles, big circles. Tried to catch one but I'm not the best fisherman as the one I did catch got off my line. Is this common for catfish to gather on the surface dancing on the water surface?
We did manage earlier in the day to catch and release one of the albino catfish--they're weird looking, almost pinkish white with blue eyes. Any body else out there put albinos in their pond?

IIRC catfish are nocternal,that is they are more active at night than during the day.They werent gasping were they.Hope they were just feeding.
And yes,I put some albinos in too.I got somee CC from Todd at Overtons along with several friends and I think he made sure we all got a few,no extra charge.

We have about 10-15 albinos that are now 2 yrs old. This youngun here was the first fish cought this year. They say the herons usually kill them pretty quickly du to the lack of color.

We have one albino. He was cought in Carlyle Lake wich makes him even more special since the survival rate of albinos in the wild is low.

We watch the pond almost every night,
when that moon is big and bright,
its a supernatural delight,
every catfish is dancing in the moonlight.
Every catfish here is out of sight,
they dont bark and but they sure bite,
they keep things loose they keep line tight,

Did you notice any sort of bug hatch that night or maybe the night earlier. When ever we have a large bug hatch our CC seem to love the surface.

Not really. Maybe a few bugs as I'd been seeing bird during the day diving and skimming the surface so I assume they are after bugs (and not baby fish). The catfish seemed to dance on one side, then the middle, then over to the other side, then back to the middle...not gasping for air, i mean like "teasing me" dancing like "you cannot catch me!"--they were having 'catfish fun--only they know what the hec they were doing'. Fun trying, though. My albinos are about the same size as the one above. Now, these albinos are sterile, right??? I think Jeff hit a home run above, with 'dancing in the moonlight'. Interesting watching your own pond grow and seeing what does what when.

Be careful Jeff. The IRS is narrow minded about creative Bean Counters.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I know it was a full moon last night, and I think Sunday night was very close to a full moon.

I know it was a full moon last night, and I think Sunday night was very close to a full moon. Well that explains why I woke up this morning naked in my neighbor's field clutching a half eaten flop eared rabbit. Sooner or later this flop eared rabbit thing will catch on.
