I have about 50 16 day old tilapia in a 20 gallon tank. In the last 5 or 6 days some of them have been rubbing the bottom of the tank. They are eating well and growing by the day. Not all are doing this. Is there any thing to be worry about and if so what should I do. Thanks Ricky

it's called flashing and it means that they're being irritated by something. do you know the pH of your water? Nitrite level? Ammonia? It can also happen before an outbreak of Ick.

Do you have a filter set up on your system? Most likely your ammonia or nitrite levels are to high. Do a partial water change.

It's ok for fish to flash every once in awhile, it happens. But if you have a bunch of them doing it then it's probably a sign something is wrong with your tanks water conditions.

We had some doing this and we changed out some of our water after letting it sit by itself for any off gasing. Put a bigger aerator and cleaned the filter more often and it seemed to go away.
