they scuba dive for them in the lake by my house they go to at least 30 feet and fill up mesh sacks. they take them and have crawdad for supper
i would guess they have the ability to go hundreds of feet deep

I have no idea but expect there is a difference in the crawdad species.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Well i have no idea which species are in my lake cause I didn't put them in my lake. But I they got in the lake cause I've found dead crawdads around the lake.

We have at least 5 different types in Iowa. Most live within a few feet of the surface but a couple will go quite deep. One (Prairie Craw) lives underground in the ditchs and rarely around any lakes! Ross the best way to tell the type is to find some crawdad scat and taste it, if it's sweet then its  opps, sorry that's how you tell the difference between a whitetail buck and doe.

Ross the best way to tell the type is to find some crawdad scat and taste it, if it's sweet then its opps, sorry that's how you tell the difference between a whitetail buck and doe. I set up a novice hunter with pre-placed milkduds when teaching him how to scout for deer over 35 years ago. I still laugh remembering the 10 shades of green he turned when I taste tested the deer poo..  It was at least 10 years later before I told him the truth... He turned 10 more shades of green because he'd been tasting for years after that!!!!

where in michigan can I buy crayfish (crawfish) to stock for private pond and what precautions/stock rates should I take?

what kind of fish do yiu have in this pond
i have smallmouth bass in my pond and have stocked it with several hundred crayfish that had eggs on there bellies
stock several hundred to start, they are a bass's favorite food.
i got mine for approx 25 cents a piece
most hatheries stock them,beemers hatchery in iowa could mail them to ya!
