Just got back from a fishing trip to Northern Saskatchewan with my dad. He's getting up there in age, so I wanted to take him on one last trip up North to my favorite lodge, Camp Grayling.
We were fishing a shallow cove on the second day when we noticed this monster swimming around slowly under the boat. I wish I could say that one of us caught her, but our Dene guide simply put his net in the water, almost as a joke, and she swam right into it. We took a couple quick pics and got her back in the water and revived. She measured 53" -- biggest pike I've ever seen! You can see the battle scars and the messed-up left eye (maybe the reason she swam into the net -- that, or fish suicide).
I ended up catching 8 pike between 40" and 48" on our four day trip, and dozens on the 30" to 39" range. It was also still a bit chilly up there, as you can see from the bottom picture!
