When I got home from work yesterday I found eight big bluegills floating in the pond. This is the first time I've ever seen dead fish in the pond. The pond is 1-1/2 yrs old,1/2 acre in size and stocked initially one year ago with 150 CC, 300 CNBG, 1500 FH. Recently added 35 LMB. Pond has an areation system with 2 9-1/2" diffusers and a fountain. Areation system runs 24/7, fountain runs 12/7. Fish are fed twice a day from an electric feeder. Three weeks ago I noticed a red algea forming on the surface. I had this same algea last summer. I put in two gallons of algecide from Crystal Blue and the next day it was cleared up. Water looked fine approx 8-10" visibility. Fish were feeding great. Three days ago the algea formed again. Sunday I was cutting grass and spraying weedkiller. I had asked before on this forum if it was safe to spray Roundup around the pond on the limestone to keep the grass from growing. I was told that I could use Roundup or any Glyphosphate based weed killer. I didn't have any Roundup, but I did have Razor Pro. I read the ingredients on the Razor Pro and it was 49% Glyphosphate and 51% other ingredients. I sprayed around the pond trying not to get any in the water. Some did get in but not very much. When I got home from work yesterday I noticed all of the red algea was gone, but I had eight dead fish floating on the surface. Now, I'm trying to figure out if the dying algea killed the fish or the Razor Pro. I'm also wondering if this is the tip of the iceberg and If more fish will die or are dead and haven't floated yet. We've had some extremely hot temps. here in south La. and no rain in the last three weeks. I waited for the feeder to go off yesterday evening and there was little to no feeding activity which is extremely unusual. I hope I don't have a pond full of dead fish. What do ya'll think??

Describe the fish . I don't think it is from a "little" weed killer on the banks especially if no rain with in 24 hours.

Ewest, other than being a little bloated they looked normal. A couple were eaten on by the turtles, but there were no marks on them or any evidence of parasites, or any kind of discoloration. I watched yesterday when the feeder went off and it seems like they are back to feeding as normal, and there were a lot of fish feeding. It seems like this may have affected just those eight fish. Thanks for the info. I will look at it and try to see if I can figure out what happend.

Sometimes a few males die just after the spawn from stress/exhaustion. Good luck and post if there are changes.
