As many of you know by now, I have a new 5 acre pond. Just stocked 250 FH and 250K GSH fry 3 weeks ago. Two questions:
1. What fish now 1st? What size, etc. (I want LMB, HBG and RES)

2. Diff topic: Is 3 weeks too soon for those fry to grow kinda big? I am walking banks and seeing a gazillion minnows of various sizes at every turn. Some 1/4, some 1/2, some 1 inch or larger. The 200 FH I stocked were med size, but I have not seen what I think are any of them since they would be significantly bigger. WHere are all these minnows coming from? Could any of the FH have spawned in that short of time? Or are those GSH just growing that fast?

Can you get pics of the existing fish ? The GSH would not be big yet and the FH could have spawned but the fry would be tiny at this point. You have other fish in there I think.

thanks for the note ewest. I was wondering that myself. It just does not seem to add up. The GSH fry were just a dark cloud in the water 3 weeks ago. I have not seen the bigger FH I released yet. I am going to try to dip some of the minnows and put in an observation jar and take pics. If they are the GSH they have really been eating and growing well on something, 'cause I aint feedin 'em.

After 3 weeks, you may have some GSH that have increased up to 1/4 or 1/2 inch. If I had to guess though I would say the bigger ones would be your FH. If your FH had spawned, their fry would be smaller than your GSH regardless. If you did have some other species in there, that is another possibility. Post your picks when you can and you should get a more definitive answer.
