Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Types of fish to choose Tiger Muskie

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you northern pond owners have tried 1 or 2 Tiger muskie (sterile) to help with over populated/stunted panfish? Why or why not?

I'm not a norther pond owner but the answer is simple.
Unless you have a BIG POND you will eventually end up with 1 or 2 fish in your pond!
As you get older it's easier to accept that you simply can not have all your wants.
It would truly be wonderful if I could have the mighty musky in my pond!
Life is all about compromises, trade-offs, choices.
You can have your muskies so long as you are willing to feed them (read constantly restock) their forage.

I like to fish for Musky, and having said that, I couldn't imagine having them in my pond. These are some large, mean hombres. On the other hand, If you have a large pond and don't care if your other fish are wiped out, then it sure would be fun catching him when the time is right. Good luck catching him by the way!

Thanks for the replies. What size of an pond would you say is large enough for just 1? 20 acres? 30 acres? Could 1 tiger really clean out a pond of that size?

My body may be getting older, but my spirit and dreams aren't. When it comes to ponds I will always revert to 9 years old, heh.

Of course your right! When it comes to fishing I too am a kid.
I guess we should fall back to the basic question: What are your goals? List your goals for the pond & then see if what you propose fits.
