Well, this evening I took the big plunge! I asked my girlfriend of almost 4 years to marry me and she said yes... I am one lucky guy!

I did it in grand fisherman style. I took her out on the boat to a pretty section of the Potomac River near a light house. We had anchored up and were fishing for catfish. Normally she out fishes me but tonight I was catching all the catfish. So I told her I as going to put a special secret bait on the line but she couldn't know what it was was so she couldn't watch me bait the hook.

She looked away, while I attached a laminated note that read: Sarah, You've caught my heart. I added 6 oz of weight and cast it out. After a couple minutes I said you must have something on, she reeled it in, when it came to the surface, she read the note as I got down on my knee. I asked her to marry me and broke the ring out and the rest is history... She cried a bunch, called all the family and friends and was one happy girl on the ride back to the marina!

CJ,

You're hooked now!

Congrats!

4 years? What took you so long?

Congrats CJ!!!

I like your style! I had Cathy's ring placed into a fortune cookie at our favorite Chinese restaraunt. She opened it with about 20 employees looking on. Engaged 10 years now.

Well Rainman, you've loaded the gun, when are you going to pull the trigger?

Special note: the term "loaded the gun" should not be confused with slang vernacular "Chamber a round." Although sounding somewhat similar, they have entirely different meanings. However one might imagine that in this context of becoming engaged it could be quite possible to "load the gun" and "chamber a round" in a very close time proximity to each other.

Congratulations. What a way to propose!

I'm assuming that all your Pond Boss friends will be invited to the wedding. We're a quiet bunch, but you better have lots of your co-workers there if the beer runs out, or when we get thrown out -- whichever comes first.

It'll be 33 years for us this year. By far, the best 33 years of my life.

Forget the wedding. I just want to know where the reception and free food is.

When I was in college in Michigan there was a reception hall not to far from my dorm. Needless to say the reception hall got a lot of guys pretending to be part of the wedding party. I wasn't one of them though. I was to much of a nerd then.

CJ Congratulations, I just got back from the cabin and read the great news, boy she must be a great girl to put up with a fish raising, fish catching,COP.
Don't wait too long to get hitched, she might find someone normal.

Have you worked out the Honeymoon timing that we discussed?
Posted By: CoachB Re: She Said Yes! - 05/28/09 01:43 AM
I'm late on this too, congrats. I've been married 19 years to my best catch! That proposal will be hard to beat. Now, it would have been really interesting if she had caught a fish on the cast!

It is Gail and my 40th this year.

One of my good friends did a similar proposal where he and his girlfriend (at the time) were fishing off his boat off of the Jersey shore.

He baited her line with a faux-engagement ring and cast it out for her.

When she reeled it in after having no bites, he was on his knee.

Congrats Dwight, 40 years these days is something to be very proud of! My grandparents are at 62 years now... Something to be said about a lasting marriage. I have a lot of faith my marriage will be successful.

CJ, I'll give you another tip for a long marriage, it's worked for me for 38 years, learn to communicate, let her know how much money you will save buying that tractor, or the priceless quality time together on that new pontoon boat, make her part of the buying decision.
Posted By: CJBS2003 Re: She Said Yes! - 05/29/09 10:36 PM
HAHA, they say after infadelity, money is the third leading cause of divorce. The number one leading cause of divorce is of course marriage...
Posted By: burgermeister Re: She Said Yes! - 05/29/09 11:32 PM
Great advice, AP. I just bought a new old tractor. Now my wife's AC is out on her car. Been wanting a new one for some time. My tit is in a wringer. BUT, she was all gung ho about a tractor. I am not gung ho about a new car.
Posted By: adirondack pond Re: She Said Yes! - 05/30/09 12:25 AM
burger, that's a real bummer, we can do without ac up here, but in Texas it's life or death.
Maybe if you bought a pontoon boat she could cool off after the hot ride home. \:D
