I noticed two turtles today with about 3/4 to and inch of moss on their shells. They were about 2 feet in the water. They didn't take off like most turtles do. After a few minutes they did final swim off. I don't know if I was seeing things, but they looked like box turtles. Do I need to worry about the stuff thats growing on their shells?

Every Snapper I've ever seen had a good accumulation of moss on the shell; it looks like pretty good camouflage for them.

I've encountered it on other species, but I don't suppose it would surprise me if some of them grow moss too.

I don't understand exactly why someone would worry about turtle moss.

Do you really like turtles? Are you concerned that this may indicate a disease, or something like that?

Yes, I was wondering if it was a sign of a disease. I haven't made up my mind if I like turtles or not.
