Went around the lake today (65 deg) bass fishing a little and noticed the water very cloudy. Could this be due to a turnover in the water column? Lake is max 9 ft deep, 3 1/2 acres. Some rain last week, but nothing unusual.
Caught 1 fish!
StanV, did you have increased surface algae also?
No, none that I could see. It's been very cool here, I don't think this is a bloom.
I get a minor algae bloom in my ponds in the fall and winter.
Cecil, that was what I was wondering about. After our rain last week, I lost about 12 to 18" of visibility, and had small patches of floating algae in the wind free parts of my pond.
The visibility change didn't appear to be silt.
Well, that's what it must be! Good and healthy.
Another possibility in the fall is inreased muskrat activity stirring up clay as they dig.
No muskrats here.
Maybe all these falling leaves have contributed to the cloudiness?
Doubtful. Maybe a tannin stain but that's not cloudiness.
If it went cloudy after the rain it may just be new inflow causing the cloudiness.
That makes the most sense.
It's a consistent color throughout, I'm leaning towards a bloom. Got to go take a peek and see if any clearing has occurred.
