For those with experience with F1's do they seem to have a smaller mouth than a pure FLA or Northern

This is a link to a man with pics of F1 bass that he says have a smaller than normal mouth? Are they growing so fast the mouth can not catch up? or is this a common thing with the F1? Then of course he could just be exagerating the difference in mouth size. He also has no measurements or data just his "eye" on it. Anyone with F1 see a smaller mouth? I dont think it would hider the bass as a prime predator, but just looking for thoughts.

That would be my guess, mouth size is a decent indicator of age. I have seen a a 2-1/2 year old northern strain LMB that was 20-1/2" long that also had the mouth size of a normal 16-1/2" northern strain LMB. That's what happens when there is lots of food and very little competition in a freshly stocked pond. The pond this happened in had about 2 dozen bass fry that accidentilly got mixed in with 700 BG fingerlings when it was initially stocked. I was quite suprised to catch a bass that size from this pond just 2-1/2 years later. \:o

I would expect that very agressive and fast growing F1 strains would would show similar patterns in relation to their mouth size.

I can not view the pics but here is one of an F1 bass less than one year old, they weighed right at a pound. They have a small mouth but I think that is age related. Most pondowners have never seen bass in excellent body shape ( Wr >120%) that to me is what a bass is supposed to look like, fat bodies and the smaller mouth sizes than you would expect. BTW look at this same year class bass in the last PB now at 4 pounds in under 2 years he still has the small mouth look.

If anything I have noticed the mouth size is smallest on pure northern bass. http://www.lakework.com/photo_gallery/ga...010220.JPG.html

i do believe that the mouth of a LMB has relation to its age.
