i have 2 mesquiete trees about 10 feet back from dam edge of new pond site,should they be removed?
what percent of one acrea pond needs to be 8-10 ft,location 50 miles south of san antonio.

I don't know enough about mesquites root system to respond on them.

Fifty miles S. of San Antone is dry country. I would make it as deep as I could dig. Water can get real hard to come by in that area. If I could get some 16 to 20 ft. area, I would.

mesquite dont use much water, and i'll give you a SWAG that they wont be an issue provided that they are not actually on the dam. how big are they? will they hang out over the water? they might contribute some organic matter to pond, but not as much as most trees, and they might provide shade and some (insect) forage for fish.
