Ah, Tickfaw. I used to go up to Independence once a week when I lived in N.O., and every Christmas season I would stop and mail all our cards from Tickfaw just to get their postoffice stamp on the envelopes. We got a lot of questions about Tickfaw, and I had a lot of fun making up meanings for the benefit of the city slickers.

When we duck-hunted in the oxbow lakes around Vicksburg as I was growing up, we would put in our boat and run up to the blind. The water was so full of gar that we had to run slow for the safety of whomever was at the tiller. The skeg and prop would hit those rolling gar one after another and kick the motor up.
