I have built a floating island for some domestic ducks in the pond to escape from predators. Works great for turtle shooting as well. I'm not sure that is your objective though.
I built mine using 4'x 8' with the long sides sloped so that the ducks could easily climb up. Styrophome underneath and filled with dirt that I planted wildflowers on. I didn't want it to look too out of place.
