Had a little bright spot after 3 years of failure attracting wood ducks to my duck huts. I had a male and 2 female ponds walking around on the grassy bank on the SW corner of the pond as I left for work this morning. The duck hut is on a PVC pole, mounted in the water about 20 feet away from where they were on shore. I thought what is the chance that one of those hens will go into that hut? Probably not much chance this late in the spring. But it still was great to see them. An hour later they were gone and never came back all day.

in the woods behind our house there are some natural swampy areas and another couple of shallow ponds (vernal pools maybe?) Neighbors see wood ducks on the ponds but they don't take to nest boxes there either. I think they have too many prime old trees with holes in them to pick from already.
