I have read that in a smaller pond you need to drill all your holes before you start to fish. Fish will move away from the noise when you are making your holes. Also a good fish finder or flasher will tell if their are fish there or what depth they are at. They do not move much in cold water. When I was a kid you could take a quart jar and use it like a spy glass and see the fish if you had clear water. I would watch a fish come within a 1/2 inch of my bait and then just back away and leave.
