I caught them with a jig for the first few years, then it slowed down. Then I started getting hits with smaller lures. They were still working ok for a few fish, just about any time of year, as long as I was fishing early am or almost at sunset.
My grandkids caught 30 or 40 a few weeks ago. All with worms. Some under a bobber, and some just slowly pulled in on the bottom.
If I’m trying to catch a lot of YP in a short time (think fish fry) I’ll go to worms, but otherwise I’ll stay with lures. Same ones the SMB hit in shallow water.

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.
