I have had great luck in catching small GSF with the cloverleafs traps I built. White bread works fine, dog food, and recently got some fish food which seems to work too.

Watch several youtube videos on how to make them - this is a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLyhZ0x1dx0 then adjust the process as you see fit.

For the small fish I built four of them out of 1/4" hardware cloth. They are rather tedious with small zip ties but they work great. They are also a bit frail due to the fine wire gauge so don't let your kid sit on them.

I also have two with 1/2" hardware cloth versions going for larger BHs. I recently added four 7" pieces of pipe insulation to each side. Not to make it float ( it still sinks) but the floats correct for a "bad throw" so the trap will settle into the pond correctly.
