I saw a pair on our pond Thursday evening (woodies). I had stopped to buy wood shaving to put in the nesting box. I thought someone said to find cypress shavings. The place I stopped at had cedar, pine, and aspen. I bought the aspen thinking it might be closest to cypress. I put the shavings in the box about 3" deep. Hope that's enough. I can add more. Might have been too late for that pair, as I didn't see them around at all the next day. I'd like a nesting pair, but don't want a whole bunch. Last fall I had 200 woodies on the pond. It's less than an acre now, so I let the dog run a bit to keep them away.

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.
