Hey guys! In 2015 I found this forum because I was expecting to be building a 45 acre lake at my hunting camp in North Central Mississippi. The lake required a land purchase which fell through quickly, but I have spent a considerable amount of time reading in the meantime.

Now it's 2017, and we're back at it, only this time it's a property we are about to have under contract on the other side of the camp. I've only estimated from topo maps, but it looks to be between 20-30 acres of water.

I'm going to start a thread for it on the Pond Construction Forum, first in the "Selecting a Site" forum and I'll just start a new thread as it hopefully moves through the phases.

The desire for this lake is going to be bass and bream fishing, with an emphasis on bass. I'd like to prevent a bass crowded scenario, but I'm not adamant that it be managed for trophy bass either. A fishing trip where 10 or more fish in the 1-3 lb range are caught and a couple are 4+ would be a blast to me. I think I'm being realistic with this scenario.

For this thread, I'd appreciate any broad advice, some "what to watch out for's", and "might want to try...." type ideas. One thing about this lake is that it will be deep. Topo lines show the water line at the dam being around 40 ft. The image below has 10' topo lines. The red line is the watershed area. Watershed:water area ratio is about 4.2. From what I've read, this is on the low end. But there is at least one spring feeding this watershed, possibly more. Once we own the land, I plan to topo survey it and get more detail on what I'm looking at.

I look forward to interacting on PBF (I'd better just go ahead and get used to using acronyms) and building this lake!
