Can anyone in MI or nearby states report on RES spawn date? I have never witnessed RES spawn beds in my pond and assumed they were in the deeper water just below my visibility limits. I did have YOY RES in traps last spring and again this spring. But if I have 2" RES in traps this spring and RES haven't spawned yet this year??
I went out at last night last week and saw 2 spawning rings in a place where the gravel was fanned clean of sand. I saw a fish on the bed then it darted away so I couldn't see it well. It was dark and flashlight doesn't illuminate very well.
There is only one place where i have a layer of gravel, and even though it was covered with silt, they found that one spot in the whole pond that had a rocky bottom and something made a nest there.
the RES and LES are the only panfish in the pond, GSH, scatter eggs, Perch are already done laying egg ribbons, so I have to believe they are RES/LES nests... so maybe we will have more RES babies soon?
Others see RES beds already?
