I have lately been mashing down the barbs on my little jigs before doing sampling fishing in my pond. As long as I keep a tight line, I don't lose any more fish than before. It sure is a lot easier and quicker to get the hook out, so catch and release survival should be better. I also use barbless when fishing for eater CC. I don't want to keep any of my few albino CC for food.
If you have a break off the hook will fall out of the fish's mouth rather easily too.
The jig hooks still hold the teaser bait almost as well as non altered hooks.
If you stick yourself, it's also easy to back out. YMMV.
