(I have been avoiding involvment on this topic) But I have to agree with Nick on this one. Although the thought of a cheap do-it-yourself fish shocker for occasional survey work sounds like a nifty toy, it has the potential to be too darn dangerous.

One of the problems is testing out your ideas/set-ups would be just as dangerous as using the device for it's intended purpose. It is one of those things where you may not get a second chance to make neccessary changes.
Not something you don't want to get right the first time.
