The wife and I had a really cool experience this weekend. Taking a break from farm work and getting warm, we heard the wood ducks on our pond sound alarm and take off. Then we saw this huge bird that was the size of a buzzard only it didn't look or behave like a buzzard. It had a flight pattern and look like nothing we'd seen before. After a short investigation on the internet and our bird books, we identified it as a golden eagle---very rare for our parts. We do see a few bald eagles a year, but this guy was totally different. He flew pretty low and directly over our building, giving us a really good look. We were also lucky to capture it on video on the wife's phone. We also had our first osprey and sandhill cranes this year. Who knows, maybe flamingos will be next---or penguins!!
