It wouldn't hurt, from the same literature RES appear to be very tolerant of higher salinity. Redear are probably the most salinity-tolerant species of all the centrarchids and survive without apparent discomfort in brackish water (Bailey et al. 1954; Wilbur 1969). Redear are found living in the tidewater of the Escambia River, Florida, where salinities ranged up to 24.4 ppt (Bailey et al. 1954). Bailey et al. (1954) classified redear sunfish as facultative invaders of brackish water. They frequently invade, probably for a considerable time, into water of low salinity (i.e., at least 4.5 ppt). Redear occur at salinities from 2.6 to 6.7 ppt in Louisiana (Geagan 1962) and at salinities up to 12.3 ppt in Florida gulf coast marshes, although 90% of the redear collected in this survey were from water with a salinity of less than 5 ppt (Kilby 1955).
