We certainly agree about the gills may not like/use them to spawn. We feel the redear,warmouth and crappie should, and know both Large and Smallmouth will be all over it, due to testing and watching.
We'll see how different species react, but as always, lots of variables in individual ponds/lakes.
Location is key with suitable substrate for desired bedding material as you guys well know. Sand, gravel, etc only,not to be installed in silt, muck or the like.
Put them where you know the fish are spawning to simply help a few more fry/eggs survive on the nest. far better than a cinder block or stump, which leaves to much open to predation.
