Honestly don't know but there is literature out there. JKB?

I've had my color up there in the rich red (top of scale) for nitrates with my API Master test kit and had no issues with bluegill, tilapia, smallmouth bass, or yellow perch.

.......

Thanks. The API test kit literature recommends no higher than 40 ppm for fresh water aquarium and I found the same number a few places on line for "typical community" so I will go with something lower than that.

Personally wouldn't be afraid of going higher with percids, centrarchids, and minnows. As you may know the centrarchids have a reasonsble resistance to nitrites, and I would think if they are resistant to nitrites, nitrates which are less harmful wouldn't be that big of an issue.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
