Hi 333, I hope it all works for you. I would say the bottom you are going to clear would need some core testing to be safe. The vegetation will come,Trust me. I would suggest watching what you get from birds that come in, etc. and wait to plant extra if needed. Since you will live in Kaufman, I would suggest a well, so you can control water level better unless surrounding property of say 20 to 50 acres will have runoff into your pond. I have 12 acres in East TX. and my pond just would not fill after two years(dug well).

As well you would most likely have an all around better pond if you bought a book or two from the PB site. Bob Lusks' book Perfect pond want one, would get you started,IMO.
