Drill 1/8" or 3/16" holes in the bottom, and about 1/4 the way down from the top of the cage. That lets out the air at the bottom, but keeps some in at the top. If not, it might try to turn turtle on you when in the water. I agree about the noodles and the hole in the top.
Depending on the size of the GSH, they might beat their tails up on the mesh.
