I still haven't found my ice fishing rod but I did find two of these this morning.

Shorty, a trick that has worked for me is to take a fish stringer with metal clips - open all clips and drag across bottom. One of the "hooks" will snag the line or in one case for me - the fishing rod.
Give it a shot - worked for me a couple of times....
