The most common off-flavors in
pond aquaculture are caused by
blue-green algae, so most off-flavor
management practices are
aimed at manipulating phytoplankton
communities to eliminate
that group of organisms. A
variety of schemes have been proposed
for managing phytoplankton
blooms, but most approaches
have either been unreliable or
impractical.
