I did some shad fishing on the Delaware near New Hope, PA. about 15 years back. It was good fun. Supposedly, the shad run helped save George Washington's army from starvation or something like that?
I've heard the same story Sunil... Back then they were so thick you could walk across their backs in most tidal rivers. Many Native American tribes built their villages at tidal river fall lines and subsisted off of the shad runs along with other anadramous fish. I wish I could get a video of fighting one. I will try to get someone to video when I fight one so people can see just how hard these fish fight and the leaping jumps they make!
