The new limit is a slot that protects fish between 30 and 45 inches. The slot limit allows anglers to keep smaller fish to eat while protecting big fish that can be released and caught multiple times. Under the new regulation, an angler may keep only one blue catfish per day that's bigger than 45 inches. The overall limit on blue and channel catfish in the aggregate for experimental lakes remains 25 fish daily. I'm confused by the slot limit. An angler can keep 25 fish per day in total so theoretically they could keep 24 smaller fish per day (defined as a fish that is up to 45 inches in length) and one fish per day that 45 inches or longer. It seems like this strategy will eventually deplete the fish. Are Blue Cats that prolific or are they hard to catch? I'm not trying to start an argument, I am just curious. I can't even imagine catching a 100 pound fresh water fish!
