Redears hang out deeper than BG. I don't think they surface feed much at all. My BG:RES catch ratio runs about 10:1, even though stocking was 2:1. It's not all just BG spawning numerical superiority - they're harder to find (for me at least). But EVERY redear I catch is in really good condition (I like that) and so far the bgiggest bream I have caught out of the pond was a RES.

The last three years I have caught most RES before the end of June and not so many after that. I think after spawning's over, they get even more hunkered down.
