just from all my years as a professional bass fisherman... I thought the ones with the spot were threadfin shad. Plus they don't get near as big as a gizzard shad. My opinion only. Don't gizzard shad get up to around 2 pounds?

Young Gizzard Shad have the dot too, they lose it when they get larger. Look at the mouth position on the Gizzard Shad and on the Threadfin Shad. Gizzard is more downward facing, Threadfin is more forward. Upper jaw of Gizzard Shad protrudes over the lower jaw, that is NOT the case with Threadfin Shad.
Also, count the rays on the anal fin. 29-35 is a Gizzard Shad, 20-25 is Threadfin Shad.
Both fish in question are Gizzard Shad in my opinion.

Ok. I was going to say all tye g shad I catch have the spot. What age do they pose it?
I can't give you a date, but I've seen it in young GS and in young adult GS, but never in older GS. I haven't seen it in fish larger than 8"-10", but just don't go by my observations alone.
