Bluegill jig
Thought I would share a photo of the jig that's been taking a lot of BG and HBG for me recently. This is a Fiskas, balance jig, and I have it tipped with Gulp! Alive pink maggots. I fish it beneath a slip float, with the depth easily variable as to fish location.
The red and black combination has always been a top producer for me.

Sprk does the color or pattern on the jig seem to affect the catch rate? It appears you are using the N-31 model of balancer jig. I suspect the shape & taste of the "gulp" is the key attractant. http://www.yourbobbersdown.com/balances.html

Bill knows yourbobbersdown!! Excellent!
I do think the color makes a difference. I do my overall best on brighter colors, reds, pinks, and oranges, but like most things fish-wise, there are days when they want to see something else.
The red/black combo is my go-to however, when I'm exploring. I have caught bluegills while fishing the jig untipped, but tipping with the Gulp definitely ups the success rate for me. I will take live maggots as a tipping agent any day of the week, but they are hard to find down here. The Gulp fills in the gap until cooler weather arrives, and I can have maggots shipped to me.

Have you tried using bits of earth worm or night crawler on these jigs? Some have excellent success using pieces of live worm to tip the small jigs.

I do on occasion, and it certainly works. But whenever I do the "purist"? in me wonders which aspect is responsible for catching the fish....the jig, or the protein hanging off it?
Plus, this way my perfectly pristine, manicured, and delicate hands remain unsoiled by blood, guts, and dirt.
Course' there is that weird, unsettling Gulp! smell....

Good rig Tony - thanks for sharing. Fiskas is a good company, I like their pricing and quality.

Just curious but do Ya'll ever just use can kernel corn? I can't leave it out 10 seconds without getting a bite. I understand if you are wanting to use artificial. Don't have to rebait hook all the time. And it is more fun to cast and crank to me anyway. But for just catching corn is number one here in deep east Texas.

Never used corn for bluegills, but I've caught GC on broccoli florets.
