Kayak Gardening for Floating Islands.

We bought 3 floating islands last year for our pond in New Braunfels, TX. I included pictures of my wife Cindi doing some kayak gardening to our wildflower island. I am including pictures of all 3 islands, one that is natural, the second is wild flowers and perenniels and the third that we purchased and set afloat last month with perennials. Our fish are thriving and the pond looks so good. We love them.

Looks neat. I believe those are gnomes; Right?

What kind of garden stuff?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Garden gnomes of favorite sports teams as well as dancing gnomes, reading and relaxing gnome, and guitar playing gnome. I also have 2 memorials on the island for a guitar player/singer songwriter friend and a friend that played NFL football for 10 years, coached for 30 more years in the NFL and won 3 NFL Championships. His name was Lew Carpenter.

Dave,The 3 islands are planted with native plants to central Texas. We are keeping a list of the perenniel plants that are very hardy and love the sun. If interested leave me a message. We use long handled shears and long handled grabbers to do the gardening. The small island is 35 square feet and the 2 larger islands are 70 square feet and require the long handles if you are working in the water to trim. We anchored the islands with 12-15 lb kettle barbells on a 15 ft chain so they can be moved around.

Ihawk are your plants planted in soil? I had success that way, but no success with the root dropping directly into the water.

John Monroe: The islands we got were manufactured from Baton Rouge, LA and they market and sell them down south. The islands themselves have holes in them that we put potting soil, peat moss about half full. Then added the plants in the hole. We then added about 1 inch of soil on top. Sprinkled wild flower seed on the island after it got established. I like your island and how you made it.
