Hi Guys,

I have a few weeks off of work and I thought I would take the time to dig a small pond to hold Irrigation water for my lawn and also to stock a few fish in for the kids to catch.
I am shooting for a 80x100 pond 3:1 slope and 15 ft deep in the middle.

My terrain is flat farmland so I will be excavating the pond with my old track hoe a 1977 Hein Werner C12. I have a high water table due the irrigation canal and the various center pivots on neighboring properties. My soil is a heavy water saturated clay at 2 feet deep. This has made is tough to excavate due to the sidewalls of the pond collapsing frequently which requires me to stay about 10 feet away from the pond edge with the excavator. Attached are a couple of pictures of where I am trying to dig. I am using a 3" trash pump to remove water as is accumulates but most of the bottom of the hole is a soupy milkshake consistency of clay mixed with water.
